An Exceptional Late 19th Century Louis XVI Style Gilt Bronze Mounted Marquetry Center Table

A rectangular marble top with rounded corners above a frieze centered by a marquetry inlaid tablet depicting putti at play. It is raised on turned tapering legs terminating in gilt bronze sabots. The sides and back of the table are each centered by a rectangular panel inlaid with putti emblematic of the Arts and Sciences.
After the famous Model, ‘Table des Muses’, by Jean-Henri Riesener.

The origin of the design for the table is derived from the work of the renowned eighteenth century ébéniste de Roi, Jean-Henri Riesener, who was responsible for many important contributions to the formation of the Louis XVI style in France.
