Hippolyte Moreau was a French Sculptor that was born in Dijon in 1832 and died in Neuilly-sur-Seine in 1927.  Hippolyte is the second son of the sculptor Jean-Baptiste Moreau and trained at the workshop of his father.  With his two brothers Mathurin and Augustus, he moved to Paris to follow the teaching of François Jouffroy at the School of Fine Arts.  From 1863 to 1914 he exhibited at the Salon of French artists. He specialized in decorative subjects most often inspired by the eighteenth.century.  He won two medals at the Universal Exhibitions of 1877 and 1900.   He mainly produced medium-sized works and decorative everyday objects. He is the author of the statue of Clairault on one of the walls of the City of Paris, rue de Lobau.  Most of his works are preserved in the Museum of Fine Arts in Dijon .
