Signed Aug. Maillard 1905 to the back.
Auguste Maillard, born in Paris in 1864, trained as a sculptor at the Paris School of Fine Arts in the workshop of Alexandre Falguière. Subsequently, he in turn became a professor at the School of Fine Arts. He created numerous memorials for French cities, war memorials and busts of personalities.
He exhibited at the Salon of the Society of French Artists from 1885. He obtained a medal at the Universal Exhibition of 1900 in Paris where he presented the marble of The Fall of Icarus. He participated in the 1904 universal exhibition in Saint-Louis, the 1905 universal exhibition in Liège and exhibited at the Winter Salon in 1942, 1943 and 1944.
