A Wonderful Late 19th Century Louis XVI Style Gilt Bronze Mounted Marquetry and Parquetry Cabinet by Maison Forest, Paris

Maison Forest

The breche violette marble top above a center frieze drawer designed with bronze mounts of flowers and berries, flanked by two other top drawers, the case with an excellent central inlaid panel with a large urn of flowers and scrolling foliage, all within trelliswork, each side with fitted cupboard doors which open to shelves and storage, all raised on tapering bronze mounted feet.

The center top drawer with a plaque engraved ‘Ameublements / FOREST 31 rue Cambacérès, 17 rue Boétie Paris’.

Forest opened his shop in Paris in 1883. The furniture produced by the Maison Forest stands out for its lavishly applied good quality gilt-bronze mounts and often strongly contrasting colors of marble tops.
